Blog # 8 for Week 9...

Lighting Calculations.

In your Winchip text or in texts from the Ai library or from the Internet, etc. do some research on lighting calculations and post your discoveries on the blog. Ashley Bell is doing some research into the particulars of lighting for the NCIDQ and we will compare this information when we receive it.

Thanks, off you go.

I have great news...I found some fascinating and very helpful information, which I hope is legitimate!

On http://www.lightcalc.com/ there is software available that can do all of your lighting calculations. It takes into consideration the ceiling height, room width and length, counter height, color palette, etc. The program was written by a certified ASID/NCIDQ designer and claims to save time and money due to its efficiency.

The summary of features includes the calculations for: reflectance in room, proper footcandle levels, proper adjustments for footcandle levels, determines proper spacing, uses inverse Square Law and Lumens methods, and a slew of other things.

In my opinion, it was only a matter of time that lighting calculations became digital, especially considering the access we have to programs such as autocad and photoshop, etc. Hope this helps!

I went to the General Electrics site. http://www.gelighting.com/na/business_lighting/education_resources/tools_software/toolkit/layout.htm

they have a lighting toolkit online, and u can do all sorts of calcutions on it. They have a simple energy estimator and a lighting layout estimator, along with other tools.

I found an interesting calculator on the Philips website. It talks about being LEED Certified and has a calculator for it. It can calculate Philips' lights or other lighting designer's lights and let you know if they are LEED Certifiable.
